Russian soldier in first pic is cleaning his rifle. The clip is out, any rounds from the camber would already be removed. He’s already cleaned the barrel and is checking his work by looking down the barrel to see if there is any dirt left.
Rule #1. Always assume a gun is loaded.
Rule # 2. Never point a gun at anything (body) unless you intent to shoot it.
Rule # 3. There are no excuses after the fact.
rdj120, have you ever actually cleaned a gun? I’ve been cleaning them for over fifty years, and I always look down the barrel like that, after I’ve cleaned it, to see if it’s clean. Rule One is: All guns are always loaded. Rule Two is : Never point a gun at anything you don’t want to destroy. Rule Three is: Keep your finger off the trigger until and unless you are about to shoot. Rule Four is: Know your target, and what is behind and beyond it. Before cleaning a gun, an AK-47 in this case, Place it on safe, remove the magazine, pull the bolt to the rear and visually inspect the chamber to make sure no ammo is in it. Then check the chamber a second time. Then take it apart, and clean it. So the soldier pictured is not being stupid, just thorough. NutSpark is correct, except the AK-47 does not use clips, it uses magazines. Clips are for inserting rounds in guns that have internal magazines, like the M1 Garand, the 1903 Springfield, or the Mosin Nagant.
