Just about every time I see someone I stop. I kind of got out of the habit in the last couple of years, moved to a big city and all that, my girlfriend wasn’t too stoked on the practice. Then some shit happened to me that changed me and I am back to offering rides habitually. If you would indulge me, it is long story and has almost nothing to do with hitch hiking other than happening on a road.

Boss Pays Off Vietnam Vet’s Mortgage So He Could Retire Early

A 69-year-old Vietnam veteran is retiring early thanks to the generosity of his boss.

Albert Brigas has been working as a mechanic at Renown Auto Restoration in San Antonio, Texas for the last 13 years. He has also been living in the same house for the last 24 years—and he had been putting off retirement until he could finish paying off the mortgage in 2020.

Rudy Quinones, who owns Renown Auto Restoration, said Brigas is a dependable employee who came into work every day, even when he was sick.

“Albert is a humble individual, extremely hardworking, would give the shirt off his back to anyone. His family was very close to our hearts and the fact that he gave us so many loyal years of service… He’d come to work sick, he never came in late. He is just one of those guys that had so much pride in what he did.”

New Loving Owner Saves Obese Golden Retriever From Being Euthanized And Helped Him Lose 100 Pounds

Kai the Golden Retriever weighed a astounding 173 pounds when Pam Heggie started fostering him — more than 100 pounds overweight for an adult golden retriever.

Her veterinarian, told her, “This is the most overweight animal I have ever seen.”

Kai’s previous family took him to the vet to be euthanized because he had a hard time getting up. However, the vet stepped in and contacted the Misfits of Alberta Animal Rescue, which helped put Heggie together with Kai.

She didn’t even know where to start when she started fostering him.

When she first got home with Kai, he was so overweight it took him 20 minutes to climb the stairs and get through the door.

This Priest Brings Stray Dogs To Mass So Families Can Adopt Them

A kind priest has devised a brilliant way to help the stray and abandoned dogs of his city get adopted

Father João Paulo Araujo Gomes, the head of the parish of Santana in the Brazilian city of Gravatá, started bringing the homeless dogs into his church in order to show them off to potential adoptive families.

The priest became concerned at seeing so many stray dogs and decided he absolutely had to do something to help them.

Teacher Carries 10-Year-Old Girl With Spina Bifida On His Back So She Wouldn’t Miss Field Trip

A girl with spina bifida was able to go on a field trip with her classmates thanks to one kind teacher.

According to the child’s mother, Shelly King (who posted about the touching gesture on Facebook), when she learned that her daughter Ryan’s class was planning a field trip to the Falls of the Ohio State Park near the border of Indiana and Kentucky, she knew she would have to come up with an alternative plan for her kid.

Bikers Stop At The Lemonade Stand Of Little Girl Whose Mother Helped Save Them During Crash

One year ago, Daryn Sturch, a nurse, and her daughter came upon an accident involving several motorcyclists of the Milwaukee Iron.

“I stayed with them and did the best I could to triage them and keep them awake and calm,” Sturch said, adding that all five bikers involved in the crash had sustained “severe” injuries.

After the accident, Sturch began receiving an outpouring of thank you messages from the bikers associated with Milwaukee Iron.

This School Started A ‘Comfort Closet’ So Kids In Need Can Secretly Grab Hygiene Items And Clothes

Vanessa Bateman and Heather Malick, two kindergarten teachers from Niota Elementary School in eastern Tennessee created the concept of a ‘comfort closet’ to provide the school’s children with these necessities “with no judgment, no questions, and easy access.” The closet is stocked with clothing, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, combs, feminine hygiene products, toothpaste, toothbrushes and soap.

The ‘comfort closet’ is housed in an old locker room where children can discreetly be taken to the room to “shop”. This way it saves the children from embarrassment and helps them focus on learning without the additional stresses of life.

One man is on a mission to mow lawns for those in need in all 50 states. His goal isn’t really about lawn care — it’s about letting people know he cares about them.

Every time Rodney Smith Jr. visits a new state, he sends out the same Tweet: “If you know of anyone who is elderly, disabled, a single mother or a veteran who needs their lawn mower let me know. It’s free.”

Man Uses Old Tires To Make Thousands Of Cozy Beds For Stray Dogs And Cats

While 23-year-old Amarildo Silva was working at a local supermarket, he was trying to figure out how to use his creativity and artistic ambitions to make something useful out of discarded materials. Noticing that the dogs in his neighborhood liked to curl up and sleep in old, used tires, he started collecting unwanted tires from city streets, parking lots, and landfills, and upcycling them into comfortable pet beds.
