Your granny might knit with yarn, but this awesome granny bombs with it! Grace Brett just might be the oldest street artist in the world. At 104-years-old, the adorable great-grandmother has a passion for yarn-bombing her town. She works alongside Souter Stormers as a part of a secretive group of ‘yarnstormers’ that yarn-bombed 46 landmarks throughout the Scottish county of Borders in the last few weeks.
In an interview with Press And Journal Grace explained, “I thought it was a really good idea to decorate the town and enjoyed having my crochet included. I liked seeing my work showing with everyone else and thought the town looked lovely.”
The series of yarn-bombing across Selkirk, Borders required lots of planning and prepping, as evident by the exquisite knitted creations left in the most clever places.
Grace’s 74-year-old daughter Daphne said of her dear mother, “She has always knitted and crocheted all through her life. She has always done all the knitting for the babies and made shawls.”
The Souter Stormers recently yarn-bombed Selkirk for the YES Arts Festival, largely thanks to inspiration gained through Grace. Kay Ross, a spokesperson for the Souter Stormers said, “The yarnstormers, a group of mixed age range, have been inspired by Grace to use their creative and artistic skills to transform the Selkirk landscape. Grace has confirmed that age is no barrier to participating in a contemporary project.”
