You might recognize her as the sweet, precocious youngest child in 7th Heaven. But what has Mackenzie Rosman been up to since it ended?
Mackenzie Rosman was born December 28th, 1989 in Charleston, South Carolina. When she was two years old her family moved to Los Angeles. She began acting when she was just four years old, starring in diaper commercials, Hormel Chili ads, and even a Nike shoe commercial.
A family friend advised her mother, Donna, to sign her up at a talent agency. She was signed up just in time for the auditions for 7th Heaven.
The casting agents on the show were immediately taken with Rosman when she walked around the room personally shaking everyone’s hands and introducing herself before her audition. She was six years old when she was cast in the role of Ruthie Camden.
7th Heaven follows the parents Eric and Annie Camden as they raise a large family in the fictional town of Glenoak, California. Eric is a Protestant Reverend and ensures his children uphold the values he preaches. The show has been praised for its wholesome storylines and gentle parental guidance. It confronts many issues young adults and teens might face on a daily basis such as peer pressure, drinking, and premarital sex without shaming the characters or audience.
Rosman’s role in the show was the youngest daughter of the Camden family, Ruthie. She’s a very smart child and was the only Camden to have the opportunity to attend a private school. She decided against going because the school denied entrance to one of her friends because she was Muslim. She loved horses and spent time during the show working with them.
When the show first aired, Ruthie was six years old and by the time it ended, she was seventeen and graduating from high school. Her character had a few love interests throughout the seasons, but she eventually ended up with a character named T-Bone and decided to travel the world with him.
The show aired for eleven seasons and Rosman was in 236 episodes before it ended.
During the filming of 7th Heaven, Rosman landed two other roles. One was in a made-for-tv film called Gideon about a man who checked himself into a retirement home and helped the seniors regain their lust for life. Rosman had a small role in the film.
The other was in the film Proud American. The film was intended to capture the American Spirit and featured the creation of some of America’s largest corporations. However, the film broke records for being the lowest-grossing wide release in film history.
After 7th Heaven
Since 7th Heaven ended, she has gained a few other acting credits. One of the most notable is the 2009 film The Tomb about an engaged writer who is seduced by a soul-stealing temptress. Rosman plays Loreli in the film. The movie was based on a story by Edgar Allen Poe.
Many of her other roles such as Beneath (2013) and Ghost Shark (2013) are low-budget b-movies. She is currently in pre-production on a film titled Reapers Night that is expected to be released in 2024.
After 7th Heaven finished filming, Rosman posed for the cover of Maxim Magazine in a provocative outfit. When asked if people would be shocked to see her in such a different way she said: “They might be. But you know what? It’s who I am.” Jessica Biel, who played one of her older sisters on the show was also featured on the cover of a magazine, which sparked controversy on set. Rosman remembered the magazine Biel was featured on being banned from the set entirely.
