Kevin Sussman is an American actor and comedian. His most well-known role was for starring as Stuart on the CBS hit comedy series The Big Bang Theory. He also played Walter on the ABC comedy Ugly Betty.
Sussman was born on December 4, 1970 in New York. He grew up in Staten Island and was raised Jewish by his parents. After graduating from New Dorp High School, he attended the College of Staten Island before transferring to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.
While working as a computer consultant, Sussman starred in commercials usually playing “nerds” or “geeks” for companies like FedEx.
Acting Career
Kevin’s first television acting credit came in 1996 when he was cast as Joe on one episode of the long running series Law & Order. He would go on to play minor roles in televions in movies including, The Sopranos, Almost Famous and Wet Hot American Summer.
In 2001, he played the “Supernerd” in the Steven Spielberg film A.I. Artificial Intelligence. The film starred Haley Joel Osment as humanoid Robert in the 22nd century who is capable of experiencing love. A.I. Artificial Intelligence scored the number one box office slot during its opening weekend.
Sussman went on to play the part of Barry Lowenstein in the 2002 romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama. The movie starred Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas, and Patrick Dempsey. The film was met with mixed reviews from critics and viewers.
Kevin went on to act in another comedy, Hitch, which was a movie about a professional “date doctor” who teaches men how to attract women. Sussman played Neil in the 2005 romantic comedy alongside Will Smith, Eva Mendes, and Kevin James.
After Hitch, Sussman landed a main role in Season 1 of the ABC series Ugly Betty. He played Walter, who was Betty’s boyfriend at the beginning of the series.
After dating, splitting up, reconciling, then splitting up again, Walter takes a job in Maryland. Sussman does not make an appearance as Walter for the remainder of the show’s run.
The Big Bang Theory
In 2009 Sussman would land one of his most memorable and belvoved role as Stuart Bloom on The Big Bang Theory.
His character was originally a recurring character featured in Seasons 2 through 5. Kevin became a series regular in Season 6 and Seasons 8 through 12, appearing in 85 of the 279 total episodes.
Stuart was a comic book store manager in the show. His character is described as having low self-esteem, so he makes ill-fated attempts to woo women and win favor with the main characters of the show.
Fans of the series were pleased that his character went from recurring to regular. One fan said on Deadline, “Sussman is terrific and deserves this.” Another fan stated, “I am delighted with this news. Stuart/Kevin is a favorite.”
While he did not receive a pay increase from his first episode to his final episode, it was reported that Sussman made $50,000 per episode.

Kevin is still very active as an actor and can ben seen in a variety of tv shows and television movies.
In 2021, Sussman was cast in the Hulu show The Dropout. The show was the true story about Elizabeth Holmes who founded the tech start-up Theranos.
Once worth billions, Holmes, played by Amanda Seyfried, falls from grace when it is revealed that the health technology she sold didn’t work.
Sussman played Mark Roessler, the scientist in charge of the laboratories at Theranos. The series was nominated for six Primetime Emmy Awards.
Also in 2022, Sussman played Mr. Lingk, a rich man with cancer in the acclaimed series Better Call Saul.
A much anticipated project for Sussman is the series Lessons in Chemistry, which is set to premiere on Apple TV + in 2023. The show is based on a best-selling novel about a woman who dreams of being a scientist in the 1960’s but must put her dream on hold due to social pressures thrust upon women and unexpected circumstances. Sussman will play Walter alongside an ensemble cast including Beau Bridges, Lewis Pullman, and Stephanie Koenig.

In 2006, Sussman married his now ex-wife Alessandra Young. In 2012, they broke up and then filed for legal separation in 2014. The divorce was finalized in 2018.
In March 2022, Sussman got engaged to his girlfriend Addie Hall, a realtor.
Sussman has no children, but regards his dog as his “fur baby.”
