Sarah Rafferty is an American actress who has acted in film and television. She is best known for her role as Donna Paulsen on the USA Network series Suits.
Background Information
Rafferty was born on December 6, 1972. She grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut with her mother, the Chairwoman of the English Department at the Convent of the Sacred Heart School, and her father, who worked in finance and in the arts, and three older sisters.
She attended Phillips Academy in Massachusetts and graduated in 1989. She later studied at Hamilton College where she majored in English and Theater.
While attending Hamilton College she studied abroad in the United Kingdom at the University of Oxford. After graduating Hamilton College in 1993 she studied at the Yale School of Drama and received a Master of Fine Arts.
Acting Career
Rafferty received her first acting credit when she played Sarah in the television film Trinity in 1998 and has made numerous TV guest appearances between 1998 and 2010, often featuring in one episode only.
These shows include Law & Order, CSI: Miami, Without a Trace, Six Feet Under, Charmed, Bones, and Brothers & Sisters.
Rafferty had a minor role in the 2002 film Speakeasy. The film is about two people who become friends after a traffic accident. Rafferty played a nurse in the movie.
Suits
In 2011, Rafferty landed a main role in the USA Network legal drama series Suits. Rafferty starred as Donna Roberta Paulsen for all nine seasons of the show until its final episode aired in 2019.
Paulsen was the Chief Operating Officer of Specter Litt Wheeler Williams. She was at first the secretary and confidant for Harvey Specter, played by Gabriel Macht, but she later becomes his wife. Her character is described as sharp and can hold her own against powerful men.
While fans of the show didn’t necessarily hate Donna’s character, they took issue with her character arc.
Grey’s Anatomy
In 2020, Rafferty scored a recurring role on Season 16 of the long-running show Grey’s Anatomy.
Rafferty played Suzanne, who visits Grey Sloan for a procedure and develops bizarre complications that Dr. Miranda Bailey and Dr. Andrew DeLuca struggle to find the cause of.

In 2019, Rafferty sold her West Hollywood home that she resided in for over a decade. Her home sold for over $2 million, which was more than $100,000 above the initial asking price.
Once the property was listed, an offer was made and accepted in just two weeks. Rafferty originally bought the property in 2006 for $1.7 million.
Personal Life
Rafferty met her husband, Santtu Seppälä, when they were both studying at Yale University.
After dating for several years, they got married in Greenwich, Connecticut in 2001. They are still married as of 2022.
