Their relationship began to sour in the 1960s and she became addicted to heroin and alcohol and her career suffered terribly.
While touring Europe in July 1964, Margie was fired from the Raelettes after an argument with Ray.
After the Raelettes, she signed a label with Mercury Records. She released a few singles, however none of them gained traction and she delved deeper into alcohol and harder drugs.
Margie died in New York on July 14, 1973 at age 38. There is no official cause of death as no autopsy was performed.
It is rumored shed died of a heroin overdose, while some people claimed she died from a car accident. She is buried at New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Register, Georgia.
