Seen as a classic ‘90s teen beauty with an air of youthful innocence, Imogen Boorman may be familiar to those with a penchant for the macabre.
The ‘80s was a prime time for cult classics, with many horror films imprinting their iconic villains on our nightmares. One particularly memorable one is Pinhead, the visually remarkable antagonist from the Hellraiser movies in which Imogen had a role.
Background info
Imogen May Pratt Boorman was born May 13, 1971 in Pembury, Kent in southeast England. In her childhood, Imogen attended Benenden School, an independent boarding school for girls, before going on to do her BTEC (a vocational high school-level degree) at the Kent Institute of Art & Design where she got a diploma in General Art and Design.
Imogen’s first acting credit was in a 1982 tv mini series, when she was only 11 years old. Her first big role was three years later in the movie Dreamchild, a 1985 movie about the author Lewis Carroll, the creator of Alice in Wonderland. Actor Ian Holm, best known as Bilbo in Lord of the Rings, played Carrol. The movie featured some of Jim Hensen’s puppets to add whimsy to Carrol’s world. Imogen’s next role would go from a weird imagination to a weirder one, while putting her on the map for horror fanatics.
Hellbound: Hellraiser 2
Perhaps her most memorable role to horror fans is in Hellbound: Hellraiser 2, the sequel to Hellraiser, the 1987 British supernatural horror featuring the iconic Pinhead, the sadomasochistic antagonist. In the sequel, the heroine from the first movie, Kirsty, is admitted into a psychiatric hospital following the horrors of the first film. At the hospital, Kirsty meets Tiffany, a patient who has a knack for puzzles and gets wrapped up in the Cenobite’s game. Spoiler alert: Tiffany helps Kirsty triumph and solves the puzzle.
In Hellraiser 2, Imogen plays Tiffany. Throughout the film, Tiffany is kidnapped, trapped, and ambushed by the Cenobites and their fans. Imogen does not reprise her role for the third installment of the Hellraiser series.
What did she do after Hellraiser 2?
Imogen only continued acting for five years following Hellraise. She has had recurring roles on both Casualty and Coronation Street, two very popular British primetime soap operas where many famous actors regularly feature. She played Vanessa Morgan for eight episodes of Coronation Street and Nikki Wyatt for 10 episodes of Casualty. She had several other one-off appearances in other tv shows from 1990 through ’93. Her final acting credit was in 1993 for the tv series Westbeach, in which she played Hannah Preston for nine episodes.
She is, however, technically credited in the 2015 feature length documentary about the making of the Hellraiser cult film series called Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser II.
What is Imogen Boorman doing now?
Unfortunately, Imogen has racked up a past full of legal issues, all of which surround intoxication and not cooperating with the police.
In 2006 and 2007 there were incidents in which she was drunk and struggled with both police and medical staff. Another incident occurred in 2009, this time in front of a child.
A drunk driving charge was added to her record later in 2016, after she was driving a camper van with two children in the back and was confronted at a gas station. She tested at three times over the legal limit to drive. Imogen was banned from driving for two years and fined. Her lawyer has admitted to a history of problems with alcohol.
Personal Life
Imogen is a mother of three daughters. She is a self-proclaimed born-again Christian. She likes baking with her daughters and is an animal lover, having cats and horses.
She has both a public Facebook and Instagram profile, but hasn’t been active for some time, though her profile proudly touts her connection to the Hellraiser movie.
Otherwise, there is not much known about this retired actress. Though it seems she’s regularly attended conventions and horror film addict events, Imogen has not seemed to take up acting again since her youth. It is unknown what she does today.
